We started out the day at Ventura's annual Push em' Pull em' parade. This is actually the first time we have done this, and I was amazed at how many people participated! Where did all those people come from?? The streets were filled with kids in strollers, wagons, on bikes, - all decorated for the 4th - and the streets were lined with people watching! Again, I was surprised! The kids loved it! They waved their flags, and of course everyone enjoyed seeing Buzz who thought that wearing a costume was very patriotic!
For me, the best part of the parade was that we walked with good friends! And of course Shane was thrilled to be with his partner in saving the world, Spider man (Miles)! One would have thought that these two conspired to both wear super hero costumes, but I think they are too young for that! Two boys on the same page apparently! And two moms who realized it was not worth fighting about!
Post parade the preparations for the BBQ went into full effect! We enjoyed having Steve's dad, sister and brother-in-law over for the day. And Buzz stayed with us the entire day!
There was quite a bit of flying going on that day!
As well as mowing the lawn! The big excitement for Faith was staying up to watch the fireworks! Yes, she is five years old and this is the first time she saw them! The top part of our backyard is a nice place to view the city's fireworks, which is great to be able to see them and not have to park or fight crowds or anything! I wish we had recorded Faith's comments about the fireworks...seeing different shapes, loving the colors, and claiming at one point that it looked like a rock 'n roll show! Where does she come up with things like that?! It was a fun day, and we are always grateful for the independence and freedom we have living in this great country!!
